AHS Touch Football Carnival

Last Sunday the Coorparoo Girls’ Touch football team participated in the All Hallows’ touch carnival. The Coorparoo team played a tough first match against St Andrews’ taking away the win 4-0. Our second match against Pullenvale SS was harder, but we still managed to win 3-0, thanks to the magnificent defence provided by Emily and Ella.  As the pool games came closer to the end we scraped away with 1-0 win against the Southwest Region. This was a difficult game and through their fantastic rucking Charlotte and Ava were able to get the team out of the red zone.  Our final pool was a comfortable 9-0 win against All Hallows’. Using her blinding speed, Ruby was able to cut right through the middle of the defence to score several tries.

Coorparoo was matched against Southwest for the semi-final. Despite their best efforts Coorparoo took it away with a giant diving try from Edie putting Coorparoo into the lead. Not long after, a quick play of the ball and a long pass out to Tahlia had the crowd cheering as another try was scored. On the final hooter, Coorparoo players and parents were all smiles as the win of 2-0 meant a birth in the Grand Final.

Nerves were all around as the Coorparoo v St Matthews’ grand final rematch began. The first try came from a quick half-run from Edie with a long ball to Sophia giving Coorparoo the early lead. This was followed quickly by a magnificent dive from Lucia allowing a two try buffer. Despite valiant defence from all girls, St Matthews were able to sneak through in the dying minutes of the game making it a nerve-wracking 2-1. Time stood still as the buzzer echoed through the fields and the team once again celebrated a wonderful win.

St Matthews were a talented team, but with the likes of Indiana, Lyndsey and Rose we managed to become champions once again.  At the presentation, all players gratefully accepted their medals as our team captain, Lucia, gave a heartfelt thankyou speech to Mr Cross, Mrs Muir, all supporters and the All Hallows’ organisation for their efforts.
